Taylor Swift’s new December Cosmopolitan cover is unfortunate, mostly because the magazine set out to highlight her (now-defunct) relationship with Conor Kennedy. Next to the singer posing in a sexy purple outfit, a cover line announces that she’s “crazy for a Kennedy!” Well, that’s still true if you’re referring to Ethel.
Inside, the headline of the profile is “Taylor Swift in Love.” Ouch, again. The writer, though, did manage to slip this caveat into the article before it went to print: “Taylor didn’t discuss her latest boyfriend (they’ve allegedly just split), but all you have to do is read between the lines and lyrics.”
Cosmo doggedly asks the pop star about her romantic entanglements and Taylor manages to dodge specifics while still testifying that she won’t tolerate guys who cheat on her, need space or want to “take a relationship backward.” She also says that if she had to choose a different career, she’d be “a mom full time, doing everything for my kids, having a bunch of them.”
Though an article about Taylor Swift’s love life turns out to be pretty boring, we do like the way Swifty was styled for the shoot. It’s not too sweet or too sexy. She just looks pretty, and like an adult. Taylor covers the magazine in a silky tank and fitted skirt that come courtesy of Kelly Wearstler; inside, she wears jeans and a white blouse as well as a dress by one of her favorites, J. Mendel, who was also responsible for her recent VMAs outfit.
In her handwritten “Cosmo Quiz” answers, Taylor shares a little bit more about herself. We learn that the beauty products she can’t live without include red lipstick (obviously), black eyeliner and a hair tie because (“I always end up throwing my hair up halfway through the day”). She also reveals that the best part of her job is partly the fame, partly the chance to do what she truly loves to do and partly “scoring free swag at parties.”
